NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Sam Hunter (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and junior Jenny Kellogg (Los Altos, Calif.) each registered a double-double to lead the Connecticut College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Western New England in its season opener on Wednesday evening. The Camels won in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-14.
Hunter finished with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Kellogg added 10 kills and 11 digs to lead the way for the Camels. Other notable contributions were made by senior Katia Elisman (Lake Forest, Ill.) and freshman Emma Hewlin (San Jose, Calif.). Elisman finished with 29 assists, five digs and three blocks, and Hewlin tallied five kills to go along with three blocks and three digs.
Western New England (1-4) was paced by Caitlin Sibiskie, who fell just shy of a double-double with 17 assists and nine digs. Sam Heffer and Cassandra Holmes ended the match with five kills apiece, and Brianna Roath registered a team-leading 12 digs.
Connecticut College (1-0) continues its five-game homestand to begin the 2017 campaign when it hosts Worcester State at 4:00 p.m. and Regis at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8.
