INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Connecticut College's Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Koko Mensah (Orange, N.J.) have been selected to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as announced by the national organization on Friday evening.
Kennedy will compete in the heptathlon and will be representing the Camels at an NCAA championship event for the first time of her career. She ended the spring ranked 10th after making a giant leap in the national rankings by racking up a school-record 4,625 points in her premier event at the All-New England Championships last weekend. The team captain significantly improved her previous program standard of 4,466 points by most notably breaking her own school records in the long jump and 100-meter high hurdles. She also recorded personal-best marks in the shot put as well as the 200-meter dash to earn her place at next weekend's championship meet as the ninth seed among 22 competitors.
Mensah secured her spot at the annual event in the shot put earlier in the spring by registering a school-record toss of 47-feet, 3-inches at the Silfen Invitational in unfavorably wet conditions on April 13th. She will be making her second straight appearance at the NCAA outdoor championship meet and third overall on the national stage after recently competing in her top event at the indoor championships this past winter. Mensah is seeded fifth for the upcoming weekend and will look to pick up NCAA All-America accolades for the first time of her career.
This year's championship meet will take place at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from May 23-25. Kennedy will compete in the heptathlon on Thursday and Friday beginning at 11:30 a.m. each morning, and Mensah will follow in the shot put at 2 p.m. on Friday.
