MEDFORD, Mass. – Junior Koko Mensah (Orange, N.J.) of the Connecticut College women's track & field team won the shot put with a school record-breaking throw at a final qualifying meet hosted by Tufts University on Saturday afternoon.
Mensah, who entered the weekend ranked 19th nationally in her premier event, registered a toss that sailed 45-feet, 4.50-inches on her fourth attempt to claim the individual crown and put her in an excellent position to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend in Boston. She also broke reset her own program standard in the event, bettering her previous mark of 43-10.75 which she notched at the Tufts Cupid Challenge earlier this winter on Feb. 2.
Connecticut College's junior thrower will now wait to see if she will be invited to attend the NCAA Championships next weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center. The list of official qualifiers is slated to be released by the NCAA on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.
