MEDFORD, Mass. – Junior Koko Mensah (Orange, N.J.) won the shot put and classmate Alicia Palmer (Bloomfield, Conn.) anchored a record-breaking relay to lead a list of strong performances by the Connecticut College women's track & field team over the weekend.
Mensah shattered her own school record in the shot put by registering a toss that sailed 43-feet, 10.75-inches. The mark, which she recorded on her final attempt, bettered the field by more than five feet and her previous top mark by more than seven inches. In addition, Mensah ended the weekend ranked 13th nationally in her premier event.
The 4x200-meter relay also established a new program standard by finishing second in 1:47.91 and beating the previous mark of 1:49.39, which was established in 2008. The group consisted of senior Ivana Lamptey (Leicester, Mass.), Ellie Ebby (Wynnewood, Pa.), Leila Alfaro (Charleston, S.C.) and Palmer.
Another notable effort was made by freshman Rachel House (Merrimack, N.H.). She finished the 3,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 10:50.68, which was good for ninth overall.
Connecticut College will next trek to Boston University to compete at the Valentine Invitational next weekend.
