SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) broke her own school record in the pentathlon on the opening day of the New England Division III Championships at Springfield College.
Kennedy finished eighth with 3,052 points, which surpassed her previous program standard of 2,955 points, and ended the evening ranked 26th nationally in the event. She most notably placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.71 seconds, sixth in the long jump by leaping 16-feet, 4.50-inches and sixth in the 800-meter run by hitting the tape in 2:33.64.
Senior Olivia Vener (Marblehead, Mass.) placed ninth in the same event with 2,878 points. She had personal-best marks in three of the five events by posting a time of 10.01 in the 60 hurdles, a mark of 29-9.50 in the shot put and a fourth-place time of 2:30.15 in the 800.
Connecticut College will continue competing at the New England Division III Championships on the campus of Springfield College tomorrow morning.
