NORTON, Mass. – Junior Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Elizabeth Hensley (Northport, N.Y.) each won an event to lead the Connecticut College women's indoor track & field team at the Lyons Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Kennedy was victorious in the long jump by recording a leap of 16-feet, 7.50-inches. In addition, she qualified for the upcoming New England Division III Championships in the event as well as the pentathlon for notching a combined total of 2,756 points in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800-meter run. Another notable performance in the field events was made by junior Emily Senatore (Norwell, Mass.), who notched a third-place toss that traveled 43-7.75 in the weight throw.
On the track, sophomore Alicia Palmer (Bloomfield, Conn.) and freshman Tarvis Hintlian (Winchester, Mass.) each qualified for the New England Division III Championships with strong performances in long sprints and middle distance events. Palmer posted a runner-up time of 1:01.04 in the 400-meter dash, while Hintlian placed second in the 1,000-meter run in 3:11.81. Hensley captured gold in the 600 by hitting the tape in 1:44.48.
Connecticut College will next compete at the Tufts Stampede on Saturday, Jan. 27.
