NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Tiernan Shea (Grafton, Mass.) and junior Maddie Ford (Acton, Mass.) each factored into four event victories in leading the Connecticut College women's swimming team to a 178-113 rout of Trinity on Wednesday evening at the Lott Natatorium.
Ford won the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events in times of 53.97 seconds and 1:57.87, respectively, and was a member of both winning relays. She swam the butterfly leg for the 200 medley relay which touched the wall in 1:50.66 and also included Shea as well as freshmen Viola Hasko (Rome, Ga.) and Anika Svoboda (Westford, Mass.) before anchoring the 400 free relay which touched the wall in 3:41.10. Sophomore Michaela O'Malley (Ridgefield, Conn.), Svoboda, and junior Kenzie Healy (Westport, Conn.) also swam on the final relay to help the Camels end the evening on a high note.
In addition to swimming the opening backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay, Shea swept both individual backstroke events for the second straight meet. She took the 100 back in 58.45 and the 200 back in 2:10.85.
Another notable effort was made by junior Andrea Higgins (Peabody, Mass.), who captured three individual events. She won the 200 fly in 2:11.57, the 500 free in 5:27.33, and the 200 IM in 2:17.07.
Connecticut College (2-0) will look to defend its Connecticut Cup crown when it races against other Nutmeg schools at Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
