WORCESTER, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's rowing team competed against a strong group of schools at its second regatta of the season at Lake Quinsigamond over the weekend.
Racing with a varied wind with a light cross tail shifting to light head on a sunny and pleasant Saturday morning, junior coxswain Joyce Welch (Cranston, R.I.) piloted the varsity women's eight to a fifth-place time of 7:24.42. Williams, which is ranked No. 3 in the latest CRCA/US Rowing coaches poll, won the race in 6:43.40 and edged out No. 10 WPI by less than four seconds.
Freshman coxswain Kelley Spy Frumer (Bowdoinham, Maine) guided the second varsity women's eight to a fourth-place finish behind Williams, WPI, and Simmons, which is receiving votes in the national poll. Her group crossed the line in 7:46.29.
Connecticut College will head back to Lake Quinsigamond to compete in its third regatta of the season against Colby, Ithaca, WPI, William Smith, Trinity and New Hampshire on Saturday, Apr. 21.
