WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore coxswain Anna Jeffers (Cambridge, Mass.) guided the varsity four to a first-pace finish to lead the Connecticut College women's rowing team in its season-opening regatta against Assumption, Clark, Hamilton and Johnson & Wales on Saturday morning.
Jeffers helped the varsity four finish the race in 8:41.9 and edge out Hamilton by one second to earn the program's first win of the season. The group also included juniors Madelyn Brewer (Dallas, Texas), Rebekah Duseau (Conway, Mass.), Julia Vitagliano (Newton, Mass.) and Alexa Bassler (Belmont, Mass.).
Earlier in the day, junior coxswain Joyce Welch (Cranston, R.I.) led the varsity women's eight to a third-place showing among five teams. The second varsity group, which was headed by freshman coxswain Kelley Spy Frumer (Bowdoinham, Maine), placed third out of four competing squads.
Connecticut College will head back to Lake Quinsigamond to compete in its second regatta against WPI, Williams, Simmons and Rochester on Saturday, Apr. 14.
