NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team fell to No. 10 Middlebury by a 4-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at Dayton Arena.
Middlebury (2-0, NESCAC 2-0) scored its first goal at the 7:36 mark of the first period when Delanie Goniwiecha carried the puck into the zone and rifled a shot to the top right corner of the net. It was also the first goal of her career.
After a scoreless second period, the Panthers opened up the margin by scoring three times in the final frame. Jenna Letterie doubled the lead when she stole the puck in her team's defensive zone and scored on a breakaway at 5:05. Ellie Barney then tipped in an initial strike by Alexis Ryan for the team's third goal just minutes later, and Madie Leidt capped the day by circling around the net and scoring from the short side at 11:41.
Sophomore Carly Denora made 25 saves for Connecticut College, while Anna Goldstein of Middlebury turned away 19 shots to pickup the shutout win.
Connecticut College (0-2, NESCAC 0-2) will next travel to face No. 7 Norwich on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
