NEWPORT, R.I. – The Connecticut College coed sailing team advanced to the championship race at the ICSA National Championships by finishing sixth among 18 schools in the western semifinal round of the four-day event.
Sailing out of the A Division, freshman CJ McKenna (Harwich, Mass.) and junior Cecilia Moreira (Winthrop, Mass.) helped the Camels finish fifth with 104 points by competing in 12 of the 14 races. Freshman Walter Henry (Syosset, N.Y.) and sophomore Liz Davis (Naples, Fla.) also contributed by sailing in the final two races in the division.
The B Division group was propelled by freshman Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Paige Dunlevy (San Francisco, Calif.) and placed seventh with 89 points. A triumph in the 13th race by freshman Harris Padegs (Buffalo, N.Y.) and junior Davis Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass.) would ultimately put the Camels over the top and punch their ticket to the championship round.
Connecticut College will continue racing at ICSA Nationals against 17 other institutions on Thursday, May 30 and Friday, May 31.
