MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Junior Scott Mason (Wyndmoor, Pa.) won the 3,000-meter run to help lead the Connecticut College men's track & field team to a 12th-place finish at the New England Division III Championships on Saturday afternoon.
Mason was victorious in the distance event by hitting the tape in a personal-best time of 8:24.82. The mark also ranks 11th nationally and puts him in a position to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Sophomore Danny Aschale (Cambridge, Mass.) also racked up points for the Camels in the event by placing fourth in 8:32.13.
Other notable individual efforts were made by senior Connor Trapp (Wilmette, Ill.) and junior Austin DiMartino (West Haven, Conn.). Trapp finished eighth in the mile in 4:18.20, while DiMartino matched the feat in the heptathlon by notching 3,525 points thanks in large part to finishing strong in the 1,000-meter run.
Select members of the men's track & field team will compete at a final qualifier meet next weekend.
