SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Four members of the Connecticut College men's soccer program garnered All-NESCAC postseason laurels, as announced by the league office on Thursday morning. Juniors Liam Donelan (Milton, Mass.) and AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.) along with sophomore Augie Djerdjaj (Mahopac, N.Y.) made the all-conference first team, while senior Matt Butera (Westfield, Mass.) earned a place on the second team.
Marcucci is being recognized for the third straight season after being named the 2017 NESCAC Rookie of the Year as well as the 2018 NESCAC Player of the Year. This year, he boasts an 0.47 goals against average and an .881 save percentage as well as six clean sheets. The junior has not conceded a goal since Oct. 19 in a setback against Tufts and also had a 12-save effort at Amherst on Sept. 21.
Donelan is a three-year starter who is garnering postseason accolades for the second time. He anchors a defense which has allowed one goal or less 12 times and shut out nine opponents through 16 matches. The defender has also helped spark the offense by registering four goals and two assists.
Djerdjaj is a first-time honoree who leads the Camels in scoring this season. The sophomore midfielder has 20 points on eight goals and four assists. Djerdjaj's biggest offensive outburst came on Sept. 17 when he scored twice and tallied an assist in an 8-2 rout of Trinity, and he has factored into at least one goal 10 times through 16 matches this fall.
Butera is off to the best start of his career, recording three goals and a team-leading six helpers for 12 points during his senior campaign to date. The midfielder set up at least one goal in five of the first six matches before scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Eastern Connecticut State on Oct. 8 and punching home another marker off a saved penalty kick in a 3-0 blanking of Hamilton.
Connecticut College (10-3-3) will make its third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament when it visits Catholic on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
