CLINTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Liam Donelan (Milton, Mass.) scored his third goal of the season in the 20th minute to lift the No. 21 Connecticut College men's soccer team to a 1-0 road triumph over Hamilton on Saturday afternoon at Love Field.
The Camels, who earned their fifth shutout victory, punched in the only goal they would need on a corner kick attempted by Christian Murphy (Newport News, Va.). The senior lofted the ball to the near side of the goal, and it was hammered home by Donelan to the opposite corner.
Hamilton's best chance to net the equalizer with just two minutes remaining in regulation. Aidan Wood received the ball at the midline from Matt Jordan and successfully made his way to the top of the 18-yard box by evading two Camel defenders, but his shot was denied by sophomore AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.). One last attempt by Noah Giovannelli in the waning seconds sailed wide, and the Camels held on to remain undefeated through six matches this fall.
Marcucci finished with five saves for Connecticut College to earn his fourth clean sheet of the season. He also ended the day leading all NESCAC goalkeepers with a .958 save percentage as well as an 0.18 goals against average. Thomas Benson of Hamilton (4-2, NESCAC 2-1) turned away 10 shots in the setback.
Connecticut College (6-0, NESCAC 3-0), which has outscored its opponents by a 16-1 margin this season, will return home to host Colby tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
