MALDEN, Mass. – Sophomore Matt Creamer (Warwick, R.I.) factored into three goals and junior Avery Gobbo (Mississauga, Ontario) earned his second career shutout as the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team earned a 4-0 road victory over Tufts on Friday evening.
Creamer quickly opened the scoring just 2:17 into the contest through a scramble of players after receiving a pass from junior Liam Ferguson (Orange, Conn.). Junior Ryan Petti (Tewksbury, Mass.) then doubled the lead before the end of the period when he received a pass from sophomore Kyle Moss (Sutton, Mass.) and finished at 16:05.
Connecticut College kept on the pressure in the second period against a different Jumbo goaltender. After sophomore Greg Pezza (Greenville, R.I.) got stopped from point-blank range and freshman Chris Adamsons (Portland, Conn.) nearly scored shorthanded, Creamer provided an insurance marker by charging through the right side and beat reserve netminder Drew Hotte for his second marker of the game at the 11:01 mark of the frame.
The Jumbos nearly got one past Gobbo in the third period, but a shot by Justin Brandt hit off the post eight minutes into the stanza. Freshman Anthony Quatieri (Peabody, Mass.) followed by tallying another insurance marker midway through the final frame, and the Camels would run away with their first conference win of the season.
Gobbo turned in his second clean sheet of the winter by making 24 saves, including 11 in the third period, to pick up the victory for Connecticut College. Josh Sarlo was charged with the loss for Tufts (5-12-2, NESCAC 2-9-2) after turning away five shots and yielding two goals in the opening frame.
Connecticut College (5-13-1, NESCAC 1-11-1) and Tufts will face off again on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. for the Camels' 8th Annual Green Dot Game.
