NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team was dealt a 5-0 setback by No. 11 Williams on Saturday afternoon at Dayton Arena.
Williams (13-4-1, NESCAC 9-2-1) scored twice in the opening five minutes of play and was dominant until the final whistle. Jack McCool factored into both goals, as he first finished a pass from Roberto Cellini just 1:04 into the contest before firing home a shot from a tough angle in the left corner as an Eph power play opportunity was expiring at 4:48.
The Ephs, who led 2-0 at the first intermission, doubled their lead in the second and outshot the Camels by an 11-2 margin in the frame. Nick Altmann found the back of the net at the 6:18 mark of the middle frame, and Marcus Mollica tallied a power play goal in the waning minutes. Nick VanBelle then closed out the scoring by tacking on a shorthanded goal in the third period to seal the final outcome.
Michael Pinios picked up the shutout victory for Williams by making 15 saves, while junior Connor Rodericks (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) was charged with the loss after turning away 20 shots and allowing four goals during the first two periods.
Connecticut College (4-13-1, NESCAC 0-11-1) will look to get back on track when it next travels to Tufts on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
