NEW LONDON, Conn.--Ella Johnson (Seal Beach, Calif.) erupted with 15 kills while adding three solo blocks to lead the Connecticut College volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Amherst College in front of 277 fans in Luce Field House Friday night. The set scores were 25-21, 13-25, 25-23 and 25-23 in favor of the Camels.
The Camels snapped a three game slide with the win, improving their record to 8-6 with a 3-2 mark in conference play. Amherst fell to 9-4 overall and are 4-2 in NESCAC action.
Junior Sam Hunter (Palos Verdes, Calif.) chipped in with 11 kills and 20 digs en route to a double-double for the hosts. Sophomore Jenny Kellogg (Los Altos, Calif.) posted a double-double of her own with a match-high 25 digs and 10 kills for the winning side. Junior libero Caroline Branigan (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and Alex McDevitt (Medfield, Mass.) contributed 18 digs each for the victors. Branigan added three assists while McDevitt posted seven kills.
Junior setter Katia Elisman (Lake Forest, Ill.) dished out 46 assists and had 10 digs in the triumph.
Amherst College senior Maggie Danner (Newport Beach, Calif.) finished with 15 kills and seven digs in the setback. Senior outside hitter Nicole Gould (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 13 kills and four digs in the loss. Kate Bres (Houston, Texas) and Charlotte Duran (Newport Beach, Calif.) both had 18 assists for the Purple and White. Duran had 11 digs while Bres finished with nine.
Sophomore libero Hayes Honea (Redondo Beach, Calif.) tallied 24 digs in the match.
The Camels will host Williams College Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. match in Luce Field House.
