PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The Connecticut College volleyball team recorded a 3-0 shutout victory against Gordon College in the opening round of the Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Invitational at the Harborside RAC in Providence Friday night. The set scores were 29-27, 25-16 and 25-22 in favor of the Camels.
Senior co-captain Ella Johnson (Seal Beach, Calif.) had a big night to lead the Camels, hitting .570 in the match with 12 kills and seven blocks. Classmate and fellow captain Alex McDevitt (New Canaan, Conn.) registered nine kills with seven digs and a pair of aces. Juniors Sam Hunter (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Caroline Branigan recorded 15 digs each for the winning side.
Sophomores Jenny Kellogg (Los Altos, Calif.) and Maddy Rust (Austin, Texas) both had seven kills in the triumph. Junior setter Katia Elisman (Lake Forest, Ill.) accounted for 34 assists and six digs. The Camels will play two more matches tomorrow afternoon in the Renaissance City. At 1:00 p.m., Connecticut College will clash with Bridgewater State University. Later on in the day, the Camels will take on the Wildcats from JWU at 3:00 p.m. in the Harborside RAC.
