MEDFORD, Mass.--Connecticut College sophomore Shannon Kennedy of East Longmeadow, Mass. scored 2,905 points to place fourth in the pentathlon at the Tufts University Stampede, shattering a school record by 328 points.
Kennedy moved up to 12th place on the national performance list for the Camels. She earned an invitation to the New England Division III Championship as well. In addition to her school record in the pentathlon, Kennedy broke her own school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.67 seconds at Tufts this weekend.
Shannon's sister Lauren placed second in the shot put this weekend for the Camels with a throw of 40 feet, six inches. Koko Mensah (Orange, N.J.) placed fifth behind Kennedy in the shot put with a mark of 38 feet, 10 and one quarter inches. In the weight throw, sophomore Emily Senatore (Norwell, Mass.) placed eighth for the Camels with a mark of 42 feet, 11 inches.
Across the Charles River, members of the Camel women's track and field team competed in the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University. Senior Bella Franz (Water Mill, N.Y.) catapulted all the way up to #2 on the national performance list in the 800 meters, earning an invitation to the All-New England and New England Division III Championships with a time of 2:12.98. Caitlin Teare (Yarmouth, Maine) earned an invitation to the aforementioned New England Division III Championship in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.30.
