MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--Emily Senatore (pictured, Norwell, Mass.) threw the discus 129 feet six inches to place second at the Wesleyan University Invitational today, breaking a school record that stood for two decades.
The previous mark of 129 feet, five inches was established by Kate Stellitano '98 back in 1996. With her mark, Senatore qualified for the New England Division III, the ECAC and the All-New England Championship. It also catapulted her up and onto the national performance list.
The Camels had two more second place finishes today. In the long jump, freshman Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) covered a distance of 16 feet, three inches. Junior Ashley Curran (Franklin, Mass.) posted a time of 10:27.80 in the 3000 meter run.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Ashley Bjorkman (Mansfield, Mass.), Kenzie McFarland (Monroe, Conn.), Kaitlin Thomas (Orange, Conn.) and Ivana Lamptey (Leicester, Mass.) posted a time of 53.40 seconds en route to their fourth place finish. Lamptey was also fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.30 seconds. Bjorkman, Shannon Kennedy, Vener and Lamptey placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:19.39.
Junior Lauren Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) threw the shot put 35 feet, one and one quarter of an inch in a sixth place scoring for the Camels.
Senior Marina Stuart (Philadelphia, Pa.) placed seventh in the pole vault with a mark of eight feet, six and one quarter of an inch. Sophomore Aly Saperstein (Simsbury, Conn.) threw the javelin 120 feet even to place seventh for the Camels, earning invitations to the upcoming New England Division III and ECAC Championship. In the 400 meter hurdles, Shannon Kennedy placed seventh with a time of 1:12.67.
Senior Emily Winter (Easton, Conn.) posted a time of 10:55.89 to place eighth in the 3000 meter run for the Camels.
The following Camels qualified for the 2016 NESCAC Championship that will be hosted by Amherst College April 30.
Lamptey and McFarland qualified in the 100 meter dash, Shannon Kennedy qualified in the 400 meter hurdles and the long jump, Stuart had her ticket stamped in the Pole Vault, Lauren Kennedy earned her invitation in the shot put, Saperstein secured her admittance in the javelin while Senatore qualified in both the discus and the hammer throw.
