NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College women's indoor track & field team topped the five team field with a score of 172 points at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational Saturday in New London.
Senior Lauren Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Ashley Curran (pictured, Franklin, Mass.) paved the way to the victory for the Camels. Kennedy threw the shot put 10.95 meters, setting a personal record with a win for the Camels. Curran, a three-time NCAA qualifier between cross country and track & field, posted a winning time of 11:02.49 in the 3000 meter run.
Connecticut College had four second place finishes Saturday.
Junior Ashley Bjorkman (Mansfield, Mass.) placed second in the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:50.16 seconds. In the one-mile run, senior Anna Laurence (Newton, Mass.) posted a time of 5:57.13. Sophomore Olivia Vener (Marblehead, Mass.) logged a time of 10.36 seconds in the 55 meter hurdles. In the 4x200 meter relay, Ivana Lamptey (Leicester, Mass.), Kenzie McFarland (Monroe, Conn.), Tori Kenyon (Plymouth, Mass.) and Amanda Jacobsen (Stafford Springs, Conn.) placed second with a time of 1:54.92.
Connecticut College placed third in 13 different events Saturday. McFarland posted a time of 7.86 seconds in the 55 meter dash. In the 200 meter dash, Lamptey logged a time of 28.83 seconds. Gianna Rocchio (Coventry, R.I.) posted a time of 1:07.96 in the 400 meter dash.
In the 800 meter run, Mimi Crawford (Allentown, N.J.) posted a time of 2:41.39. Haley Sykes (Foxboro, Mass.) completed the one-mile run in 5:59.38. Bella Franz (Water Mill, N.Y.) posted a time of 11:23.25 in the 3000 meter run.
Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) logged a time of 11.05 seconds in the 55 meter hurdles. In the 4x400 meter relay, Bjorkman, Rocchio, Eva Brydson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Casey Sullivan (Beijing, China) posted a time of 4:31.50. Leah Sabatino (Providence, R.I.), Crawford, Steph Van Riet (Dover, Mass.) and Caitlin Teare (Yarmouth, Maine) logged a time of 11:10.08 in the 4x800 meter relay.
In the high jump, Shannon Kennedy reached her apex at 1.47 meters. Senior Marina Stuart (Philadelphia, Pa.) logged a mark of 2.60 meters in the pole vault. Vener covered a distance of 4.69 meters in the long jump while first year contributor Kaitlin Thomas (Orange, Conn.) posted a mark of 8.99 meters in the triple jump for the Camels.
