Brigandi, Rudd Shine for Camels at Vassar Scramble

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.--The Connecticut College women's tennis team traveled to Poughkeepsie this weekend to compete in the Vassar College Scramble.

In the singles competition, sophomores Jillian Brigandi (Harrington Park, N.J.) and Ellie Rudd (Minneapolis, Minn.) shined for the Camels.

Brigandi posted a 7-6, 6-2 victory against Rachel Lauren of NYU in round one. Brigandi dropped a match that was played to a decision in round 2 to Jazmin Colling of NYU. But Brigandi closed out the weekend on a high note, out-lasting Emi Lewis of New Paltz with the super-tie breaker in a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 triumph for the Camels in round three.

Rudd dropped a first round match up in straight sets. But in the second round of action, Rudd rebounded with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Sabine Ludwig of NYU.  She capped off the weekend by taking a 7-6, 6-1 decision against New Paltz's Allie Starke.

The Camels had some other standout performances in the singles draw. Charlotte Marcoux (Sudbury, Mass.) knocked off Alison Wang of NYU in the first round, gutting out a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 victory. Aleksandra Drljaca (East Greenwich, R.I.) earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory against her opponent from NYU in the second round of action.

Angelica Warren (McLeansville, N.C.) and Marcoux earned an 8-3 victory against New Paltz in the third round of doubles play.
