Women’s Squash Splits NESCAC Championship Consolation Matches With Bowdoin and Colby

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's squash team split its matches in consolation rounds of the NESCAC Championships on Sunday. The Camels first soundly defeated Bowdoin, 8-1, before falling just short against Colby by a 5-4 decision.

Connecticut College only dropped the top match against the Polar Bears, while sophomore Molly Carabatsos (North Andover, Mass.) most notably captured the No. 2 spot in a marathon by set scores of 11-5, 12-10, 4-11, 10-12, and 11-9. Freshman Birgitta Salvesen-Quinn (Cambridge, Mass.) and sophomore Noelle Guiliano (McLean, Va.) each defeated their opponents convincingly in three sets from the No. 6 and No. 8 positions, respectively.

Denise Bonilla (New Haven, Conn.) and Salvesen-Quinn each put forth strong efforts to lead the way for the Camels in the narrow loss to the Mules by winning in five sets. Bonilla took the No. 4 spot by scores of 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, and 11-5, while Salvesen-Quinn was victorious by marks of 11-13, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9, and 11-4.

Connecticut College returns home to face Boston University and Wellesley next Saturday. The Camels will host the Terriers at 11 a.m. and the Blue at 2 p.m.
