AMHERST, Mass. – No. 2/2 Amherst College used a game-high, 17-point effort from Jaimie Renner '17, and a double-double outing from Emma McCarthy '19 to help steer the Purple & White to a 69-35 victory over Connecticut College in Saturday afternoon's women's basketball game at LeFrak Gymnasium.
With the win, Amherst improves to 15-0 on the season, 3-0 in NESCAC play, while Conn. College moves to 10-5 on the season, 1-3 in league action. The Purple & White return to action Friday, Jan. 20 at No. 19 Bowdoin College at 7 p.m. in Brunswick, Maine.
In the opening quarter, Amherst opened up an early, 8-2 lead following a pair of free throws by Hannah Hackley '18 at the 6:42 mark. A pair of foul shots by Conn. College's Payton Ouimette pulled the Camels to within four, but the Purple & White were able to maintain at least a six-point cushion, and extended its lead to 18-8 when Renner provided a layup with four seconds left in the quarter.
Connecticut College started fast in the second quarter as Nancy Coulverson and Ouimette notched back-to-back layups to narrow the visitor's deficit to six at 18-12 just 1:51 into the second frame. A trey by Hackley gave Amherst a 21-12 lead and the Purple & White were able to extend the advantage to 11 following a Renner free throw at the 2:22 mark. Liz Malman added a free throw of her own just seconds later, before Amherst scored seven of the next nine points to close out the half. The stretch was highlighted by a clutch triple from Renner with just six seconds on the clock which gave the hosts a 33-18 lead at intermission.
In the third quarter, Amherst exploded for 24 points and limited Connecticut College to just eight as the Purple & White began to pull away. A trey by Meredith Doswell '17 at the 7:52 mark go the second half scoring started as Amherst used a 10-0 run between the 5:13 mark and the 2:16 mark of the stanza to stake a 50-23 lead. Ali Doswell '17 scored five points during the run, while McCarthy added four points. A foul shot by Sami Ashton halted the run but only momentarily, as the Purple & White scored seven of the final nine points, capped by a three-point play from Ali Doswell, to give the hosts a 57-26 lead after 30 minutes of play.
Amherst outscored Conn. College, 12-9 in the final quarter, netting the first seven points of the period which was highlighted by a swish from beyond-the-arc from Hannah Fox '20. The Camels' Haley Vanty notched a three-pointer of her own with 43 seconds remaining in the contest as the Purple & White closed out the 69-35 victory.

- Renner led all players with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, while dishing out three assists. McCarthy followed with a double-double effort of 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Ali Doswell totaled 10 points (8 in the second half), and four steals.
- Meredith Doswell added six points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots, while Hackley loggegd eight points and six rebounds in the winning effort. Fox finished with five points, while Meghan Sullivan '19, Cam Hendricks '20, and Jackie Nagle '17 added three points each.
- Ouimette led Conn. College with nine points and collected four rebounds, while Vanty posted seven points off the bench. Ashton and Coulverson hauled in a team-best six rebounds each in the losing effort.
