NEW LONDON, Conn.--Danny Aschale (Cambridge, Mass.) posted a time of 14:43.18 to win the 5,000 meter run at the Silfen Invitational for Connecticut College. Aschale qualified for the New England Division III and All-New England Championships with his terrific run. This performance will vault him into the national rankings.
Sophomore Scott Mason (Wyndmoor, Pa.) placed fourth for the Camels in the 5,000, earning invitations to the two aforementioned championships with a time of 14:47.95. Senior Zander Mintz (East Windsor, N.J.) had his ticket punched for the New England Division III Championship in the 5,000 with a time of 15:27.11 today.
The Camels scored 67 points to place fifth in the 19 team field of competition. The Ravens from Franklin Pierce University scored 181 points to win the invitational.
In the 400 meter dash, Andrew Peterson (Wallingford, Conn.) placed third with a New England Division III Championship qualifying mark of 50.67 seconds. Sophomore Austin DiMartino (West Haven, Conn.) scored 5,079 points to place fourth in the decathlon with a new personal record this weekend. Senior Ben Bosworth (Dorchester, Mass.) took sixth place in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:57.56, earning an invitation to the New England Division III Championship for the Camels.
In the 10,000 meters, senior Alex Hernandez (Miami, Fla.), twice honored as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, earned an invitation to the New England Division III Championship with a time of 32:41.71. Sophomore Russell Adam (Cheshire, Conn.) placed eighth in the 10,000 with a time of 33:20.91. Sophomore Mike D'Onofrio (East Haven, Conn.) threw the javelin 156 feet, three inches to finish eighth for the Camels.
In the 4x400 meter relay, sophomore Blake O'Neal (Houston, Texas), Peterson, Arlo Siegel (Florence, Mass.) and Geoff Pendergast (Weston, Mass.) ran a season best time of 3:28.61 to place second for the Camels. Bosworth, Price Day (Harvard, Mass.), Jacob Brill-Weil (Cambridge, Mass.) and Jordan Comeau (Winchendon, Mass.) posted a victory in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:14.44 for Connecticut College. In the 4x100 meter relay, O'Neal, Peterson, Siegel and Pendergast placed fifth for the Camels in 46.09 seconds.
