AMHERST, Mass.--Connecticut College senior Ben Bosworth (pictured, Dorchester, Mass.) placed second in the 800 meter run at the Amherst College Spring Fling with a time of 1:56.31 to lead his team Saturday.
Bosworth qualified for the upcoming New England Division III Championship with his mark. The Camels placed sixth in the 11 team field with a score of 33 points. The Engineers from WPI piled up 148 points to win the invitational.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, sophomore Scott Mason (Wyndmoor, Pa.) and freshman Danny Aschale (Cambridge, Mass.) placed first and second with New England Division III qualifying marks of 9:36.24 and 9:45.35 for the Camels. Raymond Rich-Fiondella (North Haven, Conn.) took sixth place in this event with a time of 10:35.17.
In the 4x800 meter relay, Bosworth, Price Day (Harvard, Mass.) Jacob Brill-Weil (Cambridge, Mass.) and Jordan Comeau (Winchendon, Mass.) placed third in 8:20.50 for the Camels. Sophomore Mike D'Onofrio (East Haven, Conn.) threw the javelin 166 feet, six inches in a third place showing for Connecticut College Saturday. Classmate Jonathan Handy (Hingham, Mass.) placed fifth in the javelin with a mark of 164 feet even in an impressive performance for the Camels.
Sophomore Austin DiMartino (West Haven, Conn.) placed fourth in the pole vault (10 feet, 10 inches) and tacked on a seventh place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 110 feet, eight inches for the Camels. In the 400 meter hurdles, DiMartino posted a time of 1:07.34 en route to his eighth place finish for Connecticut College.
Senior Alejandro Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) posted a time of 15:37.22 to place fifth in the 5000 meter run. In the 4x100 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Blake O'Neal (Houston, Texas), Andrew Peterson (Wallingford, Conn.), Arlo Siegel (Florence, Mass.) and Geoff Pendergast (Weston, Mass.) secured a sixth place finish for the Camels with a time of 45.16 seconds.
NESCAC qualifiers this weekend included Bosworth in the 800 meter run; Mason, Aschale and Rich-Fiondella in the 3000 meter steeplechase; D'Onofrio and Handy in the javelin throw; DiMartino in the 100 meter dash; Peterson and Day in the 800 meter run and Hernandez, Russell Adam (Cheshire, Conn.) and Kyle Hawk (Napa, Calif.) in the 5,000 meter run.
