NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomore Scott Brown (Old Greenwich, Conn.) posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number five singles to lead Connecticut College in a 6-3 loss to Division II Merrimack College on the recently refurbished courts in Luce Field House here in the Whaling City today.
The visiting Warriors improved their record to 2-1. The Camels are 0-1 on the spring.
At second doubles, Connecticut College sophomore Charlie Williams (Mercer Island, Wash.) and junior Ben Sachs (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) joined forces to take an 8-4 victory against Warrior junior Frank Vega (Lima, Peru) and freshman Alex Fedorov (Guilderland, N.Y.). At third doubles, Camel junior captain Patrick Farrell (Smithtown, N.Y.) and sophomore Johnny Cissel (Amherst, N.H.) secured an 8-6 victory against Merrimack sophomore Alex Slobin (Fairfield, Conn.) and senior Tayyab Sheikh (Longmeadow, Mass.).
Merrimack College junior Mikhail Belov (Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia) and senior Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) won a closely contested 8-6 battle against Camel sophomore Will Cannon (Fairfield, Conn.) and senior Daniel Maffa (Lexington, Mass.) at number one doubles today.
Merrimack took straight set victories from #1-4 and again at six. Belov notched a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Williams at number one singles. At second singles, Vega defeated Maffa in a 6-4, 6-2 decision for the visitors. Majewski posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at third singles while Fedorov defeated Sachs in a 6-3, 6-4 decision at fourth singles. At sixth singles, Slobin posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Farrell for the winning side.
